Denise Henriques

Denise Henriques has a PhD and Master's degree in Public Policies from ISCTE-IUL and a degree in Social and Cultural Communication from the Catholic University of Portugal. She is an expert in Country Brand Policies, (Inter)Regions, and Cities, relating these Place Brands to Companies and Global, Digital, and Sustainable Socioeconomic Development.She is a researcher at CIES-IUL/ISCTE-IUL and ICNOVA/New University of Lisbon, dedicating herself to teaching, research, scientific consulting, reviewing and publishing articles in scientific and specialized journals, and she is also a regular speaker at international conferences.She developed, along with AICEP - Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal, the Strategic Plan for Portugal Brand. She was invited by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the European Union Representation, and the Government of Guinea-Bissau to join the advisory board aimed at developing the Guinea-Bissau Digital and Tourism Strategy.

She coordinates the Applied Online Postgraduate Program in Placebrand and Placemarketing from ISCTE Executive Education, where she was awarded with the Best Teacher Award.

She also designed a Course on Place Brand Policies and Strategic Communication at NOVA University of Lisbon. She was part of the Scientific Committee of the III and IV Ibero-American Conferences on Place Branding, and served as a judge for the first Place Branding Award in Portugal. She was the Manager of the Universities Portugal Program, aimed at the Internationalization of Public Portuguese Universities based in Lisbon, funded by European founds. She was a Member of the Internationalization Council of ISCTE-IUL, and of the Study in Portugal Network, from the Luso-American Development Foundation. She co-founded the Brands for Portugal Movement. She is the author of the book "Brand Portugal: Policies and Actors," adapted from her doctoral thesis, and published by ISCTE-IUL, with the support of IAPMEI - Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation of Portugal.
