Maria João Cardoso is a Breast Surgeon at the Champalimaud Foundation Breast Unit in Lisbon, Portugal, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, and Director of the Champalimaud Foundation Breast Cancer Research Programme.
By 2025, she had published more than 150 articles in international journals, with an h-index of 50, and co-authored more than 300 full papers at major national and international conferences.
Since 2011, she has been president of the Breast Cancer Patient Support Centre – Mama Help.
