José Fragata
PhD in Medicine and Aggregated in Surgery, is Full Professor of Surgery at NOVA Medical School, directing the Cardiac Surgery Unit of CUF Hospitals and the Cardiothoracic Surgery Service of Santa Marta Hospital. His curriculum includes an extensive casuistic of about 10,000 cases, involving all areas of cardiac surgery in children and adults, including cardiac and lung transplantation. Certified by the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons he is a member of prestigious professional societies and is currently the President of the European Society of Congenital Heart Disease Surgeons (ECHSA). He is the author of about 250 communications, 70 scientific papers and 7 books. He is also a member of the editorial board of national and foreign journals in his specialty and belongs to the General Council of the New University of Lisbon. His interests are, in addition to cardiac surgery, Health Management - with emphasis on clinical risk stratification, performance evaluation, error analysis and Clinical Governance.
