Nuno Gil

He has been practising medicine for over 40 years and is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He is currently Coordinator of the Lung Unit at the Champalimaud Foundation.

Having worked continuously with incurable diseases, often associated with significant human suffering, he completed postgraduate training in Palliative Care in order to better address patients’ needs and provide responses that went beyond those offered by his original medical training.

In this context, together with the widow of a patient he treated for lung cancer, he has been working to better understand Palliative Care needs in Portugal and explore how appropriate responses can be developed at local level, with a particular focus on involving municipalities in this initiative.
