Duarte Portela Campos Abecasis

Legal Affairs and Compliance Manager at Sumol Compal, where he oversees matters relating to compliance, corporate and commercial law, risk management, AI governance, and digital transformation.

He holds a Law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, is a member of the Portuguese Bar Association, holds an Executive LL.M. from AESE Business School, and is a certified trainer accredited by IEFP. Throughout his professional career, he has developed extensive legal and compliance experience across the pharmaceutical, automotive, and food and beverage sectors.

In his current role, he contributes to the design, implementation, and management of compliance policies, procedures, and systems, with a particular focus on risk prevention, business ethics, data protection, competition law, regulatory sustainability, and artificial intelligence governance. He also works closely with the Legal and Compliance functions and the various business areas, seeking to translate legal and regulatory requirements into practical, proportionate solutions that are integrated into organisational management.

He is a Guest Lecturer at Iscte Executive Education, where he brings a practical approach to compliance, grounded in corporate experience, risk management, and the practical application of legal requirements to decision-making.
